Like Father, Like Daughter

Meet my parents:

As you can tell, I look a lot like my mom, especially from the nose up. She loves hearing that—“Oh, is this your sister?” It never gets old.

I always hear that you’re influenced by the way your parents act. My mom is one of the sweetest, most understanding and caring people you’ll ever meet and she would do anything to make you happy. My brother is much more similar to my mom in that respect. I wish I could say I inherit those traits from her. I’m…working on it.

I definitely get my dominant personality traits from my dad—that’s not to say that my dad isn’t thoughtful or caring. He is just very boisterous and opinionated. He tells you what he thinks and doesn’t care if it’s popular. He speaks with his hands. He fights his side of an argument to the death, even when he knows he’s wrong. Watching him operate is like looking into a mirror.

As Father’s Day approaches, I have to admit I’ve learned a lot from my dad. Yes, I’m usually the loudest person in the room, but being social has always helped me make friends. I might have a tendency to be stubborn and to put up a fight but that's helped me realize what’s worth defending.

Maybe one day I’ll be a nice mixture of both of my parents. But for now, I’m pretty happy with the person I turned out to be :)
