Can I Take You Home?

It's official; Mike and I are homeowners!

*Pause for oohs and aahs, claps*

Closing went off without a hitch. Well, that's not true. I ran over a squirrel on the way to the law office, which Mike thought was hilarious and made sure to note that we would "totally be blogging about later." Also, the lawyer kept using big words and looking at us like we understood what he was talking about. Just let us sign our names 107 times and give us the keys, ok?

But an hour later, we walked out with goofy grins on our faces and keys in hand. I had to go back to work, and Mike decided to get to work reseeding the backyard. He doesn't mess around!

We met up later that night to get a lay of the land; you know I love a good list, and I felt like a list was in order before we started any major projects. First up, painting "the green monster":

That's...a lot of green. And it's only half of the kitchen.

We have another color in mind; it's currently test-sampling on the wall as I type. Updates later.

Our backyard has great potential, but it needs some TLC. Mike had to clean up several tennis balls and a vast seashell collection before reseeding, and that's not mentioning the broken pots and zipline that still reside there. (The jury is still out on whether or not the zipline stays). It's intimidating because our neighbors all have lush green lawns, and we don't want to look like slackers. Hopefully all of Mike's hard work will pay off and this baby will be sprouting new seeds in a few weeks:

Speaking of intimidating, remember the wacky triangular shaped room I mentioned before? Take a closer look, and let me know if you're as clueless as we are as to what to do with it. I'm open to any ideas (other than a nursery, and yes, I'm talking to you Mom):

Puzzling, no?

Last night, we dropped our first of many small fortunes at Home Depot. Luckily, we had a gift card, because it seems like we bought nothing of importance. Well, I bought a flagpole. Pretty excited about that.

OH. Most exciting thing. We were closing up shop and our neighbors were driving by and they waved! Love it.

My parents are coming up this weekend to help and we will surely put them to work. For now, I'll leave you with the current contents of our refrigerator; it only seems fitting:

  1. If I had that room (the non-nursery room) it would be this room I saw on pottery barn's site a year or so ago that I wanted to recreate. It would be an all purpose room to keep wrapping paper, photo album pieces, Christmas present storage, birthday present storage, decor projects, etc. For example, when I get you a glue gun, it would be in there.
I can't find a picture of the room (i'll keep looking), but this table, shelves and baskets were in it: http://www.apartmenttherapy.com/uimages/la/100208_gqpottery.jpg

I know your walls aren't tall enough for those, but you could do some low shelving with baskets on them to keep things organized. It can be wedding central until April ... invitations, favors, decorations, magazines, planners, etc. would go perfectly in there!

  2. Oh, that room is already designated as wedding central. Good organization tips though; much better than my "throw everything in there" plan!

  3. I hear that a little gift shop in Old Towne Manassas has some American flags for that flagpole you got. Might have to get put on a waiting list, though...
