Wedding Preview: What's in Bloom?

I'll admit that I know nothing about flowers. I know I hate carnations; that's about it. (A bit of advice guys: every girl hates carnations. They're the poor man's flowers. You're welcome.)

So when the time came to decide on flowers for our wedding, I was a bit overwhelmed. Luckily, we found a very patient and helpful florist who guided us through the process.

This is pretty much how the meeting with the florist went down:

Me: "Our wedding colors are yellow and navy blue."

Florist: "Ok, these are the flowers we have available in those colors."

Me: "I hate those and those. I like those."

Florist: "These flowers go together well; these don't. This is what the mothers and the fathers should wear."

Me: "Sounds great. Do you take checks?"

No muss, no fuss. Just the way I like it.

One of the flowers we decided on was the alstroemeria, which will be featured in the bridesmaid's bouquets. I've never heard of this flower before, so when I spotted them during a recent trip to Whole Foods I snatched up a batch. Best to get a sneak peek before the main event, right?

They've been blooming happily on the bookcase for about three days now, and while they've opened up beautifully, I can't decide how I feel about them. I think these are white alstroemeria, while the ones in our wedding will be yellow.

I think I like them, and I know they will fit in with the casual feel we are trying to achieve with the wedding. Any thoughts?

  1. I'm surprised you've never seen these. They are always at our Kroger and are super cheap. I get them when I want fresh flowers and don't want to drop a big pile o' cash.

I think they will be very nice for your wedding. Good choice! :)
